Before: a common layout of a central

lawn with narrow beds on either side

This fence was replaced with a custom build design for a like-for-like finish

When we first considered this garden the lawn was immediately put on the critically endangered list. Soon afterwards its demise was confirmed and it made way for a generous planting scheme through the garden which included a new pond and glasshouse.

Work began in summer 2021. The first stage was putting in a new fence, then a lasagne mulch to kill the lawn before planting started in the autumn.

lasagne_mulch

Lasagne mulch: an overlapping series of cardboard and compost kills the underlying turf without need for chemicals. Plants can then be directly planted into it.

brick_path

The brick path went down once the lasagne mulch had done the job - it needs to mature for several months

Following the hardscape installation the fun started with the planting. This went in the ground in the autumn of 2021 and will take a few years to knit together.
